Privacy Policy

Rohingya Monitor does not collect or store personal information about people simply because they visit or use our website. We also do not currently collect or track technical information such as IP addresses, device information, browser information, or other information for the purpose of tracing or identifying visitors.

The only personal information stored in our own database is information that registered users voluntarily choose to add to their own account profile. This may include their name, email address, phone number, profile photo, or other information they choose to provide.

Information submitted through our reporting system is treated with confidentiality. Each report is first received and reviewed by the highest authority or designated administrator of Rohingya Monitor. The report is checked and, where appropriate, confirmed before it is distributed to the relevant team for further investigation or action.

A reporter's personal information is not distributed along with the report to the relevant team unless there is a necessary and authorized reason to do so. This means that team members working on a particular case may receive the information necessary to investigate or respond to the report without knowing who originally submitted it.

Not every member of the Rohingya Monitor team therefore has access to information about reporting persons. We follow this approach to reduce unnecessary exposure of reporters and to protect people who provide information to us, particularly when reporting sensitive or dangerous incidents.

Information submitted to Rohingya Monitor may be used to investigate, verify, document, and report crimes, abuses, human rights violations, and other matters concerning the Rohingya. Information may also be retained as part of our investigative monitoring and database work.

We distinguish between information submitted to us and information that has been independently reviewed or confirmed. We do not automatically make every report or allegation publicly accessible.

Rohingya Monitor maintains information about reported perpetrators as part of its investigative monitoring and database. However, not all reported perpetrator information is made publicly accessible.

Due to concerns under local and international law, information about alleged perpetrators may remain within our internal database until the relevant authorities investigate the case and take official action or make a decision. Where appropriate and legally possible, information may then be made publicly accessible.

Rohingya Monitor is led by Rohingya people who have experienced many of the same challenges, pain, and struggles faced by the communities we report on. Our work comes from within the community and is driven by the need to document what happens to our people, bring accurate information forward, and ensure that important incidents are not simply ignored or forgotten.

For us, “you means us, and we means you.” The people who report, the people who are affected, and the people working to document these issues are all part of the same community. Protecting the people who trust us with their information is therefore a responsibility we take seriously.
